The most important developments in the field of Information and Communication Technology ( ICT ) have changed the world more than any other technological innovation. ICT and fisher folks cannot be related but now with the help of technology there is no gap between these two phases.
Fisheries play an significant role in our country’s social-economic development. In Bangladesh about 7.3 million people live in the coastal area, whose livelihoods depend on coastal and marine fishing (Ahmed,Islam and Shamsuddoha)
Farroque and Nasiruddin’s study shows that the fishing industry in general contributes 5.9 percent to the country’s GDP and constitutes 6-7% of the country’s export income.
From these experts view we can say that fisheries is really an important part of economy of Bangladesh. We live in a country call Bangladesh which has the geographical position and climate condition that makes it coastal areas one of the highly productive areas in the world (Islam 2003).
The condition of our fisheries sector is not so fine. The main reason is poverty and illegitimacy.Mainly this occupation followed generation by generation.Father, his son, then his grandson by this order it continue most of the time. So they follow the same old methods in their work place. There is nothing new invention. But now ICT gradually improve their condition day by day.
In Bangladesh, private sector operators are the main providers of ICTs (mobile phones, computers and internet, television channels, radio, and fixed-line telephony on a limited scale), whereas the state controls the fixed-line telephone and two national TV channels .The government also formulates and implements ICT policy.
Kutubdia Island. The Island is an upazila of the Cox’s Bazaar under Chittagong Division in Bangladesh. It is famous for the only lighthouse in our country which was built during the British rule. Kutubdia is rich in producing salt and dried fish, locally known as ‘Shutki’. The main occupation of the people of this island are agriculture and fishing.
There is hardly found any research in Bangladesh on this particular topic. From this research we can see the use of ICTs by fisher folk in Kutubdia . The educational backgrounds of the fisher folk were not encouraging.
ICT tools such as television, radio, newspaper, GPS, sonar, wireless set, Internet and mobile phone have indeed helped fisher folk to large extents. Their roles in improving the socioeconomic condition to the fisher folk cannot be denied.
There are advantages of using ICTs. For knowing fisheries-related information the fisher folks of Kutubdia Island mentioned radio is the main source of information. Also radar is another ICT tool they use. They use internet services to seek and share market price, online applications, weather conditions, business opportunities etc among each other and related places. Sonar is very useful ICT tool in terms of detecting the location of fish swarms.
It is therefore timely for farmers that the Krishi Call Center offers real-time advice on farming issues in Bangladesh. The Centre was launched in June 2014 by the Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury by dialing to the number, 16123, whilst addressing the National Digital Fair at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the city. This is an initiative between Practical Action and the Agricultural Information Services (AIS), of the Ministry of Agriculture.
In this research they found that only a small group of fisher folks use GPS.A number of fisher folks do not use computer as ICT tool. Many of them do not know how to use it. Also lacking of electricity, poor transportation system, lacking of access are problems in gaining access to ICTs.
ICT tools save cost, time, energy of the fisher folks and mobile phones and internet give the fisher folks opportunities to get the best price of their catch even before them dock.ICT in fisheries sector in Bangladesh is in primary stage still now. From my point of view our government still needs time to improve the condition for better future in fisheries sector

and the outside world. While technology is providing many advantages, there are also some disadvantages to being up to date with the latest technology. For starters, technology has made life easier. In the medical field, doctors and nurses need to get information about patients quick and easy. Technology has been able to provide faster and more accurate results. Being able to access patients’ files by a click of a button is to me, the most important advancement in technology.
Technology allows us to always be reachable if we want to be, no matter where we are or what we’re doing. Although this can be beneficial, it may also lead to a vicious cycle of stress and anxiety in which people feel pressured to immediately check and answer any incoming messages, emails or phone calls regardless of whether it is appropriate, for fear of being seen as inadequate or inattentive. In turn, this can potentially cause the breakdown of the very same relationships the person is trying to maintain.
